All About Mr. and Mrs. Smith Hotels

Pam

I just completed a stay at two Mr. and Mrs. Smith hotels in Queenstown, New Zealand. I have long wanted to try them out and see if we should recommend them. You can book these hotels with IHG points, but they are not branded by IHG. Mr. and Mrs. Smith hotels are boutique and luxury hotels collaborating with IHG.

Let me say – I was impressed! Here are my reviews and thoughts all about the two properties I stayed at.

The Central Private Hotel in Queenstown

When we drove up to the Central Private Hotel in Queenstown, I thought I was at the wrong hotel. It was completely unassuming. As soon as I walked in, I knew I liked it. The reception area is a gorgeous green. It turns out that each of the three floors has a color and name.

Right from the start, I was feeling the vibes of this quirky hotel!

The furniture and photos were fun, and the color coordination was spot on!

I can’t even tell you how much I loved this gorgeous and spacious room that we had! All the wallpaper is by a famous New Zealand artist.

The Special Touches

There were special touches throughout the hotel. A lounge area is where they have a happy hour from 5-6 with some snacks and wine. At all hours, one can enjoy sodas, beers, and the cutest candy counter – perfect for this girl’s sweet tooth!

These snacks were such a cute touch.

Room Touches

The room had bath salts and dried potpourri. It also had some savory snacks and drinks that guests could enjoy. Our cute girl (and I believe the property manager) sent champagne and truffles to our room – so sweet, even if we don’t drink. I sent Jess a pic and told her I wished I could send it to her! 😜 I think I’m going to like Mr. and Mrs. Smith hotels!

Bath salts, potpourri, lotion, and tiny soap add to the cutest of touches!

Champagne and truffles were in the room. Looks like someone immediately ate two of the truffles! 🙋🏻‍♀️

Location and Service

This adults-only property is just a short walk to downtown Queenstown and all the eating establishments. Service was superb and unobtrusive. It is really just the finest of hotels. I heartily recommend it and would happily stay there longer or again! I booked one room for 40,000 points (you could use a free night certificate) and one for 47,500 points. These rooms are priced at about $400 in US dollars.

The Dairy Private Hotel in Queenstown

The Dairy Private Hotel was our second Mr. and Mrs. Smith hotel. To be honest, I was tempted to book another night at the Central Private Hotel and just stay there.  But I was on a quest. One thing to note is that across New Zealand, checkouts were at an early 10:00, and check-ins were at 3:00 pm. It did not seem as flexible as in the United States.

First Impressions

The outside of the hotel is unassuming, just like the Dairy Central Hotel. Similarly, the minute you walk in, the wow factor kicks in! I LOVED it! It has everything: quirky, colorful pattern combinations, multiple cute rooms, and tasty treats! Mr. and Mrs. Smith hotels offer individuality and that boutique feel.

The Dairy Private Hotel also offered treats and beverages. Additionally, there was a happy hour in the evening.

Room

The room at this hotel was smaller but lighter in color also too. I loved the pale blue walls and blue print ceiling wallpaper combination. I realize that I am a fan of quirky as well as a fan of luxury.

The library also had snacks and offered another place to relax.

Location and Pricing

Just like the previous hotel, the location is perfect. It is a quick walk to town (a whole block away). Queenstown is the cutest town to wander around – it is very casual, so don’t worry about dressing up for dinner.

I actually paid more points to stay at this property because I booked it later for 42,500 IHG points. You could also use a free night certificate for this stay and top it off with points.  This hotel would cost about $350 in cash per night.

Bottom Line

After these two stays, I am a fan of the Mr. and Mrs. Smith hotels and will be searching for more of these hotels for future travels. An employee that worked in both hotels asked which I liked better. Both were amazing, and I’d happily stay at each again. I’d have to say that the bedroom at the Central Private Hotel was larger and was my favorite, but the Central Dairy Hotel gets the nod for general lobby style. What about you – have you ever stayed at this brand?

These kind of quirky places are right up my alley!
How do you book the Mr and Mrs Smith properties? I was looking at one in London but it doesn’t show up on the IHG site. Are they phasing them in slowly?
