What Should You Get After the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card?

Pam

Many of you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred. It’s the card we recommend people start with. Hopefully, you are close to meeting the minimum spend on it and collecting your bonus (if you haven’t opened that card yet, then we highly recommend that you do). Your question might now be, “What should I get after the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card?”

If you are married or have a partner, you should refer them to the card and collect more Chase Ultimate Rewards. Additionally, you will get a referral bonus of 15,000 points! If you’ve already done that, congratulations! What should you do next?

Your Next Card

Limited-time high bonus offers

Getting a card when the signup bonus is high is always a good idea. Most credit cards have a standard bonus amount they offer, but a couple of times a year, they offer more. Here are the present limited-time high bonus offers.

More Ultimate Rewards

If you love the flexibility of those Chase Ultimate Rewards that you earned with your Chase Sapphire Preferred, as we do, consider another card that will earn you more Ultimate Rewards.

I love the Chase Ink Business Cash and the Ink Unlimited as they both have great offers and no annual fees.

You can also look into any of the other Chase Ultimate Rewards cards. These are great for earning more points on everyday spend. I love the Chase Freedom Unlimited and Freedom Flex cards. Adding one, or both of these, to your lineup is a great option! Neither of them has annual fees, which is an added bonus. What’s also great is that both Freedom cards offer 5x the points on grocery purchases for the first year. This is huge for families! Check out this post to learn more about how these cards work.

Best Cards Page

You can always check out our “best cards” page and see what the top-recommended cards are. What I love about our best cards page is that you can use filters to narrow the search. For example, if you know you want a hotel card, then you can filter down to hotel cards and see what the current best offers on hotel cards are. If you want an airline card, filter it to airline cards. You can also filter it to business cards, annual fees, minimum spend amount, etc. This is a great resource and should be really helpful for you.

Consider Your Travel Goals

Do you have a particular travel goal in mind? Look into what card will get you on that trip. What’s great about the Chase Sapphire Preferred is that it can be used for flights or hotels. Figure out how you want to use those points, check out this post for some ideas, and then see where you need to fill in the gaps. Remember, we can help you with this. Just reach out to us, and we can give you a free credit card consultation.

Hyatt Residence Club Maui

You can stay at the Hyatt Residence Club in Maui with Hyatt points.

Another Beginner Card

A super simple and easy-to-use card is the Capital One Venture card. If you love staying at Airbnbs or want ultimate flexibility, check out the Capital One Venture card. This card has transfer partners and also has the option to be used as statement credits toward travel purchases. You can learn all about this card here.

Consider 5/24

Before you decide which card to get next, consider the Chase 5/24 rule. Look at a list of the Chase cards available to you and see what ones you are really interested in before you go on to other card issuers and can’t get a Chase card for a while. Some of my very favorite cards include my Chase cards.

Bottom Line

Earning lots of points and miles begins with getting one credit card, meeting the minimum spend, and collecting your bonus. And then you do it, again and again, to really rack up those bonus points. We are happy to help you decide on that next card but this might help you with your decision. You can always check out our “best cards” section on our home page for links. We really appreciate you supporting us and using our links! Hopefully, you have a better idea about what should you get after the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card!
