Free Hotel Nights with Award Redemptions

Pam

Did you know that you can get a free night stay on your already free award night redemptions? Talk about the icing on the cake!! There are three major hotel chains that offer free hotel nights on award redemptions. You need to know this because how horrible would it be to book a four-night stay and realize you could get another night for free? Yikes! I’m sure many people have done just that. Let’s look at each of the major hotel chains and what their offers are.

Marriott Hotels

Marriott offers a free night whenever you book five nights with points. This does not include nights using a free night certificate. You need to select five nights and when you pick the room, you will see this.

Note that it says I am getting one night free with the reservation! In the case of this reservation, three nights were for 50,000 points and one was for 60,000 points.  It makes it hard to redeem hotel points for just one or two nights.

IHG Hotels

IHG tops the offer from Marriott. You get a free night when you make a reservation for four nights using points! There are some really nice IHG hotels like the Kimpton, Intercontinental, and Indigo brands. There are also some great family brands like Staybridge Suites or Candlewood Suites that would be great to use this offer on.

The Chase IHG Rewards Club Premier Card consistently offers a great bonus so you could use those points and easily get four nights for your family with the free night redemption offers! An important thing to remember is that this offer for the free night is only good if you have this card. I once booked four nights when I had the Chase IHG Rewards Club Traveler Card and then couldn’t figure out why my fourth night wasn’t free. Don’t make that mistake!

Here’s how to do it. Let’s say we want to go to San Diego with our family of four. I chose a Holiday Express with free breakfasts.

Note that the fourth night is free in this example. It’s super simple! Just choose four nights, and they’ll automatically charge you for only three!

Hilton Hotels

With Hilton, you will also get the fifth night free when you use points to book your stay. Just like Marriott. Destin, Florida, is a place I’d like to go to. I checked out the Hilton Garden Inn Destin just to see what I’d find. When you pick your five dates and the room, you still have to go into “details” to see the free night.

Things to Consider

If you want to stay ten nights with points, you will get 2 of your nights free. You can do this an unlimited number of times. If you have the points, you can keep getting a free night.

This is one of those times you might consider buying points. If you are just a bit short on having enough points, it might be worth buying the rest you need so you can get that free night. Of course, make sure to do the math so that you come out ahead.

Bottom Line

Booking award nights is an amazing part of certain credit cards. The fact that you can get free hotel nights with award redemptions with three of the major hotel chains is great!. Free on top of free – Amazing!
