How to Use 90K Ultimate Rewards for Flights

Alex

Chase Ultimate Rewards are our favorite points currency. We love the flexibility that these points offer. It is also pretty easy to earn a bunch of these points because many cards offer them. There are the Chase Ink Business cards, the Freedom cards, and the Sapphire cards. With the incredible increase in the Chase Ink Business cards recently, let’s talk about what you can do with 90K Chase Ultimate Rewards for flights.

These cards will help you earn those 90K Ultimate Rewards:

One way you can use 90K Chase Ultimate Rewards is by booking flights. Because Chase Ultimate Rewards are a transferable points currency, you can take these points and transfer them directly to one of their many airline partners. Remember, to transfer these points to travel partners you need to have a Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, or Ink Business Preferred. Once you transfer your points out, they are now airline points and can not be moved back into your Chase Ultimate Rewards account, so be sure and confirm award availability before you transfer your points.

Chase Airlines Transfer Partners

  • Aer Lingus
  • Air Canada/Aeroplan
  • Air France/KLM
  • British Airways
  • Emirates
  • Iberia
  • JetBlue
  • Singapore Airlines
  • Southwest Airlines
  • United Airlines
  • Virgin Atlantic

Here are some different ways you can use those 90K Chase Ultimate Rewards if you transfer them to some of those airlines.

$1,350 On Southwest Flights

Each Southwest Rapid Rewards point is valued at 1.5 cents. If you transferred your 90K Chase Ultimate Rewards to Southwest, you would have 90K Southwest Rapid Rewards, which would get you $1,350 in free flights. If you have the Southwest Companion Pass, then this option becomes even more valuable.

Three Round-Trip Flights to Hawaii from the West Coast Using British Airways

This option is excellent for those who live on the West Coast or in Phoenix. You will be booking your flights to Hawaii using British Airways, but you will actually be flying on an American Airlines or Alaska Airlines plane. The key is to find direct flights, and then the cost will be 32K Avios per person.

To do this, you’ll need to log into your British Airways account and select “Book with Avios.” You can learn more about this and some other ways you can fly to Hawaii using your Ultimate Rewards by checking out our post all about the best ways to fly to Hawaii on points.

Round-Trip Business Class to Spain on Iberia

We had this booked for April 2020, but obviously, that was canceled. We planned to fly out of Boston for 43K Iberia Avios in business class to Barcelona. If you travel during off-peak dates, you can go from the east coast for just 34K miles each way! Off-peak from LAX will cost more at 51K miles each way due to the longer distance. Check out the Iberia site to see their peak/off-peak dates.

Booking Flights in the Chase Travel Portal

Besides transferring your points to one of those airline partners, you also have the option to use your points to book in the Chase travel portal. This travel portal is basically Expedia and allows you to book just about any flight. If you decide to use your 90K points in the travel portal, your bonus would be worth $1,125 in flights as each point in the portal is worth 1.25 cents (assuming you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Ink Business Preferred, points are worth 1.5 cents with the Sapphire Reserve). To see what the value is when transferring to an airline, just divide the cash price by the cost in points. I tend to transfer my points out vs using the portal for flights because that is where my points are usually worth more.

We have used Chase Ultimate Rewards numerous times for flights. Whether traveling domestic or international, we find them easy to use with great partners. Where will your 90K Chase Ultimate Rewards take you?

I didn’t see Qatar on the list of airlines you have mentioned in the article. Is it not possible to transfer my ultimate reward points from sapphire reserve onto Qatar airlines?

thank you so much for this information! I have exactly 90k points on Chase and I want to book a flight from Chicago to London or Amsterdam in September. But I do not know which transfer partner to use. Flying blue has a 25%bonus thru Chase now.
